Lentils or lens culinaris are one of the major sources of food crop. Ranging from colors yellow to red, orange to green, brown to black lentils also vary in size. Lentils are rich in Foliate, Magnesium and Iron which transports Oxygen throughout the body and is key to energy production and metabolism.

The word lentils come from the Latin word ‘Lens’, is considered as a cheap substitute for meal back in the day. This overlooked legume is not only incredibly versatile and easy to prepare but budget friendly as well. ( check out for prices). Their sizes mean they don’t need to be soaked overnight like other legumes. As a huge contributor to heart health, healing powers of lentils are endless. Just so you know, Mr. Pod's is happily looking forward to present this superfood containing the 3rd highest level of protein.

Recipe of the day!

Lentil soup


  • 1 cup red lentils

  • 2 tbsp. ginger, chopped

  • 4 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 2 tomatoes, chopped

  • 1 carrot, diced

  • 1 ½ cup coconut milk

  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  • Rinse the lentils and place them in a large pot with 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil and skim.

  • Add the rest of the ingredients. Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes. Taste and add water if the soup is too thick

  • Pour the soup into a bowl and serve. (Serve with bread If you wish)

  • Enjoy!
